If you’re unable to connect your email client using IMAP or POP3, check the following common issues.
Common causes:
- Incorrect incoming mail server settings (hostname, port, encryption)
- Firewall or antivirus blocking email ports
- Network restrictions or ISP blocking standard email ports
- Account password incorrect or expired
- Email client misconfigured for SSL/TLS
How to fix:
- Use the correct server:
mail.yourdomain.com
- IMAP ports: 993 (SSL), 143 (non-SSL)
- POP3 ports: 995 (SSL), 110 (non-SSL)
- Verify your username (full email address) and password
- Temporarily disable firewall/antivirus to test connection
- Try connecting on a different network to rule out ISP blocks
- Check your email client’s encryption settings and update if needed
